A Prayer for the House of God

132 O Lord, remember David and all of his suffering. Remember how he swore to the Lord, and how he made a promise to the Powerful One of Jacob: “For sure I will not go into my house or lie on my bed, or let sleep come and close my eyes, until I find a place for the Lord, a house of worship for the Powerful One of Jacob.”

See, we heard about it in Ephrathah. We found it in the field of Jaar. Let us go into the House of God. Let us worship at His feet. Rise up, O Lord. Go to the place where You can rest, You and the special box of the Way of Worship which is Your strength. Let Your religious leaders be dressed with what is right and good. And let those who belong to You sing for joy.

10 Because of David Your servant, do not turn away from Your chosen one. 11 The Lord has made a sure promise to David that He will never break: “I will set upon your throne your own children. 12 If your sons will keep My Law and My Word which I will teach them, then their sons will sit upon your throne forever.”

13 For the Lord has chosen Zion. He has wanted it for a place to live: 14 “This is the place where I can rest forever. Here I will live, for I have wanted it. 15 I will give her many good things. I will give her poor people much bread. 16 I will dress her religious leaders with saving power. And those in her that belong to Me will sing for joy. 17 There I will make the horn of David grow and will make a lamp ready for My chosen one. 18 I will dress those who hate him with shame. But the crown on him will shine.”

A Song of Praise

133 See, how good and how pleasing it is for brothers to live together as one! It is like oil of great worth poured on the head, flowing down through the hair on the face, even the face of Aaron, and flowing down to his coat. It is like the morning water of Hermon coming down upon the hills of Zion. For there the Lord has given the gift of life that lasts forever.

A Call to Praise

134 See, give honor and thanks to the Lord, all who work for the Lord, who stand during the night in the house of the Lord. Lift up your hands to the holy place and give thanks to the Lord. May the Lord bring good to you from Zion. He is the One Who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 132(A)

A song of ascents.

Lord, remember David
    and all his self-denial.(B)

He swore an oath to the Lord,
he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:(C)
“I will not enter my house(D)
    or go to my bed,
I will allow no sleep to my eyes
    or slumber to my eyelids,
till I find a place(E) for the Lord,
a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

We heard it in Ephrathah,(F)
we came upon it in the fields of Jaar:[a](G)
“Let us go to his dwelling place,(H)
let us worship at his footstool,(I) saying,
‘Arise, Lord,(J) and come to your resting place,
you and the ark of your might.
May your priests be clothed with your righteousness;(K)
may your faithful people(L) sing for joy.’”

10 For the sake of your servant David,
do not reject your anointed one.

11 The Lord swore an oath to David,(M)
a sure oath he will not revoke:
“One of your own descendants(N)
I will place on your throne.
12 If your sons keep my covenant(O)
and the statutes I teach them,
then their sons will sit
on your throne(P) for ever and ever.”

13 For the Lord has chosen Zion,(Q)
he has desired it for his dwelling,(R) saying,
14 “This is my resting place for ever and ever;(S)
here I will sit enthroned,(T) for I have desired it.
15 I will bless her with abundant provisions;
her poor I will satisfy with food.(U)
16 I will clothe her priests(V) with salvation,
and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.(W)

17 “Here I will make a horn[b] grow(X) for David
and set up a lamp(Y) for my anointed one.(Z)
18 I will clothe his enemies with shame,(AA)
but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown.”(AB)

Psalm 133

A song of ascents. Of David.

How good and pleasant it is
    when God’s people live together(AC) in unity!(AD)

It is like precious oil poured on the head,(AE)
    running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew(AF) of Hermon(AG)
    were falling on Mount Zion.(AH)
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,(AI)
    even life forevermore.(AJ)

Psalm 134

A song of ascents.

Praise the Lord, all you servants(AK) of the Lord
who minister(AL) by night(AM) in the house of the Lord.
Lift up your hands(AN) in the sanctuary(AO)
    and praise the Lord.(AP)

May the Lord bless you from Zion,(AQ)
he who is the Maker of heaven(AR) and earth.
