How can this be? Can’t they understand anything? For they devour my people like bread and refuse to come to God. But soon unheard-of terror will fall on them. God will scatter the bones of these, your enemies. They are doomed, for God has rejected them.

Oh, that God would come from Zion now and save Israel! Only when the Lord himself restores them can they ever be really happy again.

Do all these evildoers know nothing?

They devour my people as though eating bread;
    they never call on God.
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
    where there was nothing to dread.(A)
God scattered the bones(B) of those who attacked you;(C)
    you put them to shame,(D) for God despised them.(E)

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
    When God restores his people,
    let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
