¹⁵ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me?^(A) Tell the Israelites to move on.

¹¹ As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning,^(A) but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. ¹² When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset.^(B)

³⁰ The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin.^(A) But now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement^(B) for your sin.”

¹³ So Moses cried out to the Lord, “Please, God, heal her!^(A)”

⁴⁸ He stood between the living and the dead, and the plague stopped.^(A)

¹⁸ Then once again I fell^(A) prostrate before the Lord for forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water,^(B) because of all the sin you had committed,^(C) doing what was evil in the Lord’s sight and so arousing his anger.
