The Song of Moses and of the Lamb

15 Then I saw in heaven another marvelous event of great significance. Seven angels were holding the seven last plagues, which would bring God’s wrath to completion. I saw before me what seemed to be a glass sea mixed with fire. And on it stood all the people who had been victorious over the beast and his statue and the number representing his name. They were all holding harps that God had given them. And they were singing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb:

“Great and marvelous are your works,
    O Lord God, the Almighty.
Just and true are your ways,
    O King of the nations.[a]
Who will not fear you, Lord,
    and glorify your name?
    For you alone are holy.
All nations will come and worship before you,
for your righteous deeds have been revealed.”

The Seven Bowls of the Seven Plagues

Then I looked and saw that the Temple in heaven, God’s Tabernacle, was thrown wide open. The seven angels who were holding the seven plagues came out of the Temple. They were clothed in spotless white linen[b] with gold sashes across their chests. Then one of the four living beings handed each of the seven angels a gold bowl filled with the wrath of God, who lives forever and ever. The Temple was filled with smoke from God’s glory and power. No one could enter the Temple until the seven angels had completed pouring out the seven plagues.

16 Then I heard a mighty voice from the Temple say to the seven angels, “Go your ways and pour out on the earth the seven bowls containing God’s wrath.”

So the first angel left the Temple and poured out his bowl on the earth, and horrible, malignant sores broke out on everyone who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue.

Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became like the blood of a corpse. And everything in the sea died.

Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs, and they became blood. And I heard the angel who had authority over all water saying,

“You are just, O Holy One, who is and who always was,
because you have sent these judgments.
Since they shed the blood
of your holy people and your prophets,
you have given them blood to drink.
    It is their just reward.”

And I heard a voice from the altar,[c] saying,

“Yes, O Lord God, the Almighty,
your judgments are true and just.”

Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, causing it to scorch everyone with its fire. Everyone was burned by this blast of heat, and they cursed the name of God, who had control over all these plagues. They did not repent of their sins and turn to God and give him glory.

10 Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom was plunged into darkness. His subjects ground their teeth[d] in anguish, 11 and they cursed the God of heaven for their pains and sores. But they did not repent of their evil deeds and turn to God.

12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great Euphrates River, and it dried up so that the kings from the east could march their armies toward the west without hindrance. 13 And I saw three evil[e] spirits that looked like frogs leap from the mouths of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. 14 They are demonic spirits who work miracles and go out to all the rulers of the world to gather them for battle against the Lord on that great judgment day of God the Almighty.

15 “Look, I will come as unexpectedly as a thief! Blessed are all who are watching for me, who keep their clothing ready so they will not have to walk around naked and ashamed.”

16 And the demonic spirits gathered all the rulers and their armies to a place with the Hebrew name Armageddon.[f]

17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air. And a mighty shout came from the throne in the Temple, saying, “It is finished!” 18 Then the thunder crashed and rolled, and lightning flashed. And a great earthquake struck—the worst since people were placed on the earth. 19 The great city of Babylon split into three sections, and the cities of many nations fell into heaps of rubble. So God remembered all of Babylon’s sins, and he made her drink the cup that was filled with the wine of his fierce wrath. 20 And every island disappeared, and all the mountains were leveled. 21 There was a terrible hailstorm, and hailstones weighing as much as seventy-five pounds[g] fell from the sky onto the people below. They cursed God because of the terrible plague of the hailstorm.

The Great Prostitute

17 One of the seven angels who had poured out the seven bowls came over and spoke to me. “Come with me,” he said, “and I will show you the judgment that is going to come on the great prostitute, who rules over many waters. The kings of the world have committed adultery with her, and the people who belong to this world have been made drunk by the wine of her immorality.”

So the angel took me in the Spirit[h] into the wilderness. There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that had seven heads and ten horns, and blasphemies against God were written all over it. The woman wore purple and scarlet clothing and beautiful jewelry made of gold and precious gems and pearls. In her hand she held a gold goblet full of obscenities and the impurities of her immorality. A mysterious name was written on her forehead: “Babylon the Great, Mother of All Prostitutes and Obscenities in the World.” I could see that she was drunk—drunk with the blood of God’s holy people who were witnesses for Jesus. I stared at her in complete amazement.

“Why are you so amazed?” the angel asked. “I will tell you the mystery of this woman and of the beast with seven heads and ten horns on which she sits. The beast you saw was once alive but isn’t now. And yet he will soon come up out of the bottomless pit[i] and go to eternal destruction. And the people who belong to this world, whose names were not written in the Book of Life before the world was made, will be amazed at the reappearance of this beast who had died.

“This calls for a mind with understanding: The seven heads of the beast represent the seven hills where the woman rules. They also represent seven kings. 10 Five kings have already fallen, the sixth now reigns, and the seventh is yet to come, but his reign will be brief.

11 “The scarlet beast that was, but is no longer, is the eighth king. He is like the other seven, and he, too, is headed for destruction. 12 The ten horns of the beast are ten kings who have not yet risen to power. They will be appointed to their kingdoms for one brief moment to reign with the beast. 13 They will all agree to give him their power and authority. 14 Together they will go to war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will defeat them because he is Lord of all lords and King of all kings. And his called and chosen and faithful ones will be with him.”

15 Then the angel said to me, “The waters where the prostitute is ruling represent masses of people of every nation and language. 16 The scarlet beast and his ten horns all hate the prostitute. They will strip her naked, eat her flesh, and burn her remains with fire. 17 For God has put a plan into their minds, a plan that will carry out his purposes. They will agree to give their authority to the scarlet beast, and so the words of God will be fulfilled. 18 And this woman you saw in your vision represents the great city that rules over the kings of the world.”

The Fall of Babylon

18 After all this I saw another angel come down from heaven with great authority, and the earth grew bright with his splendor. He gave a mighty shout:

“Babylon is fallen—that great city is fallen!
She has become a home for demons.
She is a hideout for every foul[j] spirit,
a hideout for every foul vulture
and every foul and dreadful animal.[k]
For all the nations have fallen[l]
because of the wine of her passionate immorality.
The kings of the world
    have committed adultery with her.
Because of her desires for extravagant luxury,
the merchants of the world have grown rich.”

Then I heard another voice calling from heaven,

“Come away from her, my people.
Do not take part in her sins,
or you will be punished with her.
For her sins are piled as high as heaven,
and God remembers her evil deeds.
Do to her as she has done to others.
Double her penalty[m] for all her evil deeds.
She brewed a cup of terror for others,
so brew twice as much[n] for her.
She glorified herself and lived in luxury,
so match it now with torment and sorrow.
She boasted in her heart,
‘I am queen on my throne.
I am no helpless widow,
and I have no reason to mourn.’
Therefore, these plagues will overtake her in a single day—
    death and mourning and famine.
She will be completely consumed by fire,
for the Lord God who judges her is mighty.”

And the kings of the world who committed adultery with her and enjoyed her great luxury will mourn for her as they see the smoke rising from her charred remains. 10 They will stand at a distance, terrified by her great torment. They will cry out,

“How terrible, how terrible for you,
    O Babylon, you great city!
In a single moment
    God’s judgment came on you.”

11 The merchants of the world will weep and mourn for her, for there is no one left to buy their goods. 12 She bought great quantities of gold, silver, jewels, and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk, and scarlet cloth; things made of fragrant thyine wood, ivory goods, and objects made of expensive wood; and bronze, iron, and marble. 13 She also bought cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, olive oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle, sheep, horses, wagons, and bodies—that is, human slaves.

14 “The fancy things you loved so much
    are gone,” they cry.
“All your luxuries and splendor
    are gone forever,
    never to be yours again.”

15 The merchants who became wealthy by selling her these things will stand at a distance, terrified by her great torment. They will weep and cry out,

16 “How terrible, how terrible for that great city!
She was clothed in finest purple and scarlet linens,
decked out with gold and precious stones and pearls!
17 In a single moment
all the wealth of the city is gone!”

And all the captains of the merchant ships and their passengers and sailors and crews will stand at a distance. 18 They will cry out as they watch the smoke ascend, and they will say, “Where is there another city as great as this?” 19 And they will weep and throw dust on their heads to show their grief. And they will cry out,

“How terrible, how terrible for that great city!
    The shipowners became wealthy
by transporting her great wealth on the seas.
In a single moment it is all gone.”

20 Rejoice over her fate, O heaven
and people of God and apostles and prophets!
For at last God has judged her
    for your sakes.

21 Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a huge millstone. He threw it into the ocean and shouted,

“Just like this, the great city Babylon
will be thrown down with violence
and will never be found again.
22 The sound of harps, singers, flutes, and trumpets
will never be heard in you again.
No craftsmen and no trades
will ever be found in you again.
The sound of the mill
will never be heard in you again.
23 The light of a lamp
will never shine in you again.
The happy voices of brides and grooms
will never be heard in you again.
For your merchants were the greatest in the world,
and you deceived the nations with your sorceries.
24 In your[o] streets flowed the blood of the prophets and of God’s holy people
and the blood of people slaughtered all over the world.”

Songs of Victory in Heaven

19 After this, I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting,

“Praise the Lord![p]
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.
His judgments are true and just.
He has punished the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth with her immorality.
He has avenged the murder of his servants.”

And again their voices rang out:

“Praise the Lord!
The smoke from that city ascends forever and ever!”

Then the twenty-four elders and the four living beings fell down and worshiped God, who was sitting on the throne. They cried out, “Amen! Praise the Lord!”

And from the throne came a voice that said,

“Praise our God,
    all his servants,
all who fear him,
from the least to the greatest.”

Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder:

“Praise the Lord!
For the Lord our God,[q] the Almighty, reigns.
Let us be glad and rejoice,
and let us give honor to him.
For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb,
and his bride has prepared herself.
She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.”
For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people.

And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he added, “These are true words that come from God.”

10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters[r] who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.[s]

The Rider on the White Horse

11 Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war. 12 His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself. 13 He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses. 15 From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. 16 On his robe at his thigh[t] was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords.

17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, shouting to the vultures flying high in the sky: “Come! Gather together for the great banquet God has prepared. 18 Come and eat the flesh of kings, generals, and strong warriors; of horses and their riders; and of all humanity, both free and slave, small and great.”

19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the world and their armies gathered together to fight against the one sitting on the horse and his army. 20 And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who did mighty miracles on behalf of the beast—miracles that deceived all who had accepted the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue. Both the beast and his false prophet were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. 21 Their entire army was killed by the sharp sword that came from the mouth of the one riding the white horse. And the vultures all gorged themselves on the dead bodies.

The Thousand Years

20 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the bottomless pit[u] and a heavy chain in his hand. He seized the dragon—that old serpent, who is the devil, Satan—and bound him in chains for a thousand years. The angel threw him into the bottomless pit, which he then shut and locked so Satan could not deceive the nations anymore until the thousand years were finished. Afterward he must be released for a little while.

Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given the authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

This is the first resurrection. (The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years had ended.) Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years.

The Defeat of Satan

When the thousand years come to an end, Satan will be let out of his prison. He will go out to deceive the nations—called Gog and Magog—in every corner of the earth. He will gather them together for battle—a mighty army, as numberless as sand along the seashore. And I saw them as they went up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded God’s people and the beloved city. But fire from heaven came down on the attacking armies and consumed them.

10 Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

The Final Judgment

11 And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. 12 I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave[v] gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. 14 Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. 15 And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.

The New Jerusalem

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.[w] He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.

“But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

Then one of the seven angels who held the seven bowls containing the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come with me! I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

10 So he took me in the Spirit[x] to a great, high mountain, and he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God. 11 It shone with the glory of God and sparkled like a precious stone—like jasper as clear as crystal. 12 The city wall was broad and high, with twelve gates guarded by twelve angels. And the names of the twelve tribes of Israel were written on the gates. 13 There were three gates on each side—east, north, south, and west. 14 The wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were written the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

15 The angel who talked to me held in his hand a gold measuring stick to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. 16 When he measured it, he found it was a square, as wide as it was long. In fact, its length and width and height were each 1,400 miles.[y] 17 Then he measured the walls and found them to be 216 feet thick[z] (according to the human standard used by the angel).

18 The wall was made of jasper, and the city was pure gold, as clear as glass. 19 The wall of the city was built on foundation stones inlaid with twelve precious stones:[aa] the first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.

21 The twelve gates were made of pearls—each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass.

22 I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light. 24 The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the world will enter the city in all their glory. 25 Its gates will never be closed at the end of day because there is no night there. 26 And all the nations will bring their glory and honor into the city. 27 Nothing evil[ab] will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty—but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

22 Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit,[ac] with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations.

No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads. And there will be no night there—no need for lamps or sun—for the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever.

Then the angel said to me, “Everything you have heard and seen is trustworthy and true. The Lord God, who inspires his prophets,[ad] has sent his angel to tell his servants what will happen soon.[ae]

Jesus Is Coming

“Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book.[af]

I, John, am the one who heard and saw all these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me. But he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers the prophets, as well as all who obey what is written in this book. Worship only God!”

10 Then he instructed me, “Do not seal up the prophetic words in this book, for the time is near. 11 Let the one who is doing harm continue to do harm; let the one who is vile continue to be vile; let the one who is righteous continue to live righteously; let the one who is holy continue to be holy.”

12 “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”

14 Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life. 15 Outside the city are the dogs—the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idol worshipers, and all who love to live a lie.

16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this message for the churches. I am both the source of David and the heir to his throne.[ag] I am the bright morning star.”

17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life. 18 And I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the words of prophecy written in this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book. 19 And if anyone removes any of the words from this book of prophecy, God will remove that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.

20 He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!”

Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!

21 May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s holy people.[ah]

Seven Angels With Seven Plagues

15 I saw in heaven another great and marvelous sign:(A) seven angels(B) with the seven last plagues(C)—last, because with them God’s wrath is completed. And I saw what looked like a sea of glass(D) glowing with fire and, standing beside the sea, those who had been victorious(E) over the beast(F) and its image(G) and over the number of its name.(H) They held harps(I) given them by God and sang the song of God’s servant(J) Moses(K) and of the Lamb:(L)

“Great and marvelous are your deeds,(M)
    Lord God Almighty.(N)
Just and true are your ways,(O)
    King of the nations.[a]
Who will not fear you, Lord,(P)
and bring glory to your name?(Q)
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
    and worship before you,(R)
for your righteous acts(S) have been revealed.”[b]

After this I looked, and I saw in heaven the temple(T)—that is, the tabernacle of the covenant law(U)—and it was opened.(V) Out of the temple(W) came the seven angels with the seven plagues.(X) They were dressed in clean, shining linen(Y) and wore golden sashes around their chests.(Z) Then one of the four living creatures(AA) gave to the seven angels(AB) seven golden bowls filled with the wrath of God, who lives for ever and ever.(AC) And the temple was filled with smoke(AD) from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could enter the temple(AE) until the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed.

The Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath

16 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple(AF) saying to the seven angels,(AG) “Go, pour out the seven bowls of God’s wrath on the earth.”(AH)

The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land,(AI) and ugly, festering sores(AJ) broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.(AK)

The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a dead person, and every living thing in the sea died.(AL)

The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water,(AM) and they became blood.(AN) Then I heard the angel in charge of the waters say:

“You are just in these judgments,(AO) O Holy One,(AP)
you who are and who were;(AQ)
for they have shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets,(AR)
and you have given them blood to drink(AS) as they deserve.”

And I heard the altar(AT) respond:

“Yes, Lord God Almighty,(AU)
true and just are your judgments.”(AV)

The fourth angel(AW) poured out his bowl on the sun,(AX) and the sun was allowed to scorch people with fire.(AY) They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God,(AZ) who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent(BA) and glorify him.(BB)

10 The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast,(BC) and its kingdom was plunged into darkness.(BD) People gnawed their tongues in agony 11 and cursed(BE) the God of heaven(BF) because of their pains and their sores,(BG) but they refused to repent of what they had done.(BH)

12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates,(BI) and its water was dried up to prepare the way(BJ) for the kings from the East.(BK) 13 Then I saw three impure spirits(BL) that looked like frogs;(BM) they came out of the mouth of the dragon,(BN) out of the mouth of the beast(BO) and out of the mouth of the false prophet.(BP) 14 They are demonic spirits(BQ) that perform signs,(BR) and they go out to the kings of the whole world,(BS) to gather them for the battle(BT) on the great day(BU) of God Almighty.

15 “Look, I come like a thief!(BV) Blessed is the one who stays awake(BW) and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.”(BX)

16 Then they gathered the kings together(BY) to the place that in Hebrew(BZ) is called Armageddon.(CA)

17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air,(CB) and out of the temple(CC) came a loud voice(CD) from the throne, saying, “It is done!”(CE) 18 Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder(CF) and a severe earthquake.(CG) No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth,(CH) so tremendous was the quake. 19 The great city(CI) split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered(CJ) Babylon the Great(CK) and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath.(CL) 20 Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found.(CM) 21 From the sky huge hailstones,(CN) each weighing about a hundred pounds,[c] fell on people. And they cursed God(CO) on account of the plague of hail,(CP) because the plague was so terrible.

Babylon, the Prostitute on the Beast

17 One of the seven angels(CQ) who had the seven bowls(CR) came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the punishment(CS) of the great prostitute,(CT) who sits by many waters.(CU) With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.”(CV)

Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit(CW) into a wilderness.(CX) There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet(CY) beast that was covered with blasphemous names(CZ) and had seven heads and ten horns.(DA) The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls.(DB) She held a golden cup(DC) in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries.(DD) The name written on her forehead was a mystery:(DE)

babylon the great(DF)

the mother of prostitutes(DG)

and of the abominations of the earth.

I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people,(DH) the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.

When I saw her, I was greatly astonished. Then the angel said to me: “Why are you astonished? I will explain to you the mystery(DI) of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns.(DJ) The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and yet will come up out of the Abyss(DK) and go to its destruction.(DL) The inhabitants of the earth(DM) whose names have not been written in the book of life(DN) from the creation of the world will be astonished(DO) when they see the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will come.

“This calls for a mind with wisdom.(DP) The seven heads(DQ) are seven hills on which the woman sits. 10 They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for only a little while. 11 The beast who once was, and now is not,(DR) is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction.

12 “The ten horns(DS) you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour(DT) will receive authority as kings along with the beast. 13 They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast.(DU) 14 They will wage war(DV) against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over(DW) them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings(DX)—and with him will be his called, chosen(DY) and faithful followers.”

15 Then the angel said to me, “The waters(DZ) you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages.(EA) 16 The beast and the ten horns(EB) you saw will hate the prostitute.(EC) They will bring her to ruin(ED) and leave her naked;(EE) they will eat her flesh(EF) and burn her with fire.(EG) 17 For God has put it into their hearts(EH) to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to hand over to the beast their royal authority,(EI) until God’s words are fulfilled.(EJ) 18 The woman you saw is the great city(EK) that rules over the kings of the earth.”

Lament Over Fallen Babylon

18 After this I saw another angel(EL) coming down from heaven.(EM) He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor.(EN) With a mighty voice he shouted:

“‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!’[d](EO)
She has become a dwelling for demons
and a haunt for every impure spirit,(EP)
a haunt for every unclean bird,
a haunt for every unclean and detestable animal.(EQ)
For all the nations have drunk
the maddening wine of her adulteries.(ER)
The kings of the earth committed adultery with her,(ES)
and the merchants of the earth grew rich(ET) from her excessive luxuries.”(EU)

Warning to Escape Babylon’s Judgment

Then I heard another voice from heaven say:

“‘Come out of her, my people,’[e](EV)
so that you will not share in her sins,
so that you will not receive any of her plagues;(EW)
for her sins are piled up to heaven,(EX)
and God has remembered(EY) her crimes.
Give back to her as she has given;
pay her back(EZ) double(FA) for what she has done.
Pour her a double portion from her own cup.(FB)
Give her as much torment and grief
as the glory and luxury she gave herself.(FC)
In her heart she boasts,
    ‘I sit enthroned as queen.
I am not a widow;[f]
    I will never mourn.’(FD)
Therefore in one day(FE) her plagues will overtake her:
    death, mourning and famine.
She will be consumed by fire,(FF)
for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.

Threefold Woe Over Babylon’s Fall

“When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her(FG) and shared her luxury(FH) see the smoke of her burning,(FI) they will weep and mourn over her.(FJ) 10 Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off(FK) and cry:

“‘Woe! Woe to you, great city,(FL)
    you mighty city of Babylon!
In one hour(FM) your doom has come!’

11 “The merchants(FN) of the earth will weep and mourn(FO) over her because no one buys their cargoes anymore(FP) 12 cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble;(FQ) 13 cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and carriages; and human beings sold as slaves.(FR)

14 “They will say, ‘The fruit you longed for is gone from you. All your luxury and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered.’ 15 The merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her(FS) will stand far off,(FT) terrified at her torment. They will weep and mourn(FU) 16 and cry out:

“‘Woe! Woe to you, great city,(FV)
dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet,
and glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls!(FW)
17 In one hour(FX) such great wealth has been brought to ruin!’(FY)

“Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea,(FZ) will stand far off.(GA) 18 When they see the smoke of her burning,(GB) they will exclaim, ‘Was there ever a city like this great city(GC)?’(GD) 19 They will throw dust on their heads,(GE) and with weeping and mourning(GF) cry out:

“‘Woe! Woe to you, great city,(GG)
where all who had ships on the sea
    became rich through her wealth!
In one hour she has been brought to ruin!’(GH)

20 “Rejoice over her, you heavens!(GI)
    Rejoice, you people of God!
    Rejoice, apostles and prophets!
For God has judged her
with the judgment she imposed on you.”(GJ)

The Finality of Babylon’s Doom

21 Then a mighty angel(GK) picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea,(GL) and said:

“With such violence
the great city(GM) of Babylon will be thrown down,
    never to be found again.
22 The music of harpists and musicians, pipers and trumpeters,
will never be heard in you again.(GN)
No worker of any trade
will ever be found in you again.
The sound of a millstone
will never be heard in you again.(GO)
23 The light of a lamp
will never shine in you again.
The voice of bridegroom and bride
will never be heard in you again.(GP)
Your merchants were the world’s important people.(GQ)
By your magic spell(GR) all the nations were led astray.
24 In her was found the blood of prophets and of God’s holy people,(GS)
of all who have been slaughtered on the earth.”(GT)

Threefold Hallelujah Over Babylon’s Fall

19 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude(GU) in heaven shouting:

“Hallelujah!(GV)
Salvation(GW) and glory and power(GX) belong to our God,
for true and just are his judgments.(GY)
He has condemned the great prostitute(GZ)
who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”(HA)

And again they shouted:

“Hallelujah!(HB)
The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.”(HC)

The twenty-four elders(HD) and the four living creatures(HE) fell down(HF) and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:

“Amen, Hallelujah!”(HG)

Then a voice came from the throne, saying:

“Praise our God,
    all you his servants,(HH)
you who fear him,
    both great and small!”(HI)

Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude,(HJ) like the roar of rushing waters(HK) and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:

“Hallelujah!(HL)
For our Lord God Almighty(HM) reigns.(HN)
Let us rejoice and be glad
    and give him glory!(HO)
For the wedding of the Lamb(HP) has come,
and his bride(HQ) has made herself ready.
Fine linen,(HR) bright and clean,
    was given her to wear.”

(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts(HS) of God’s holy people.)

Then the angel said to me,(HT) “Write this:(HU) Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!”(HV) And he added, “These are the true words of God.”(HW)

10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him.(HX) But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God!(HY) For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”(HZ)

The Heavenly Warrior Defeats the Beast

11 I saw heaven standing open(IA) and there before me was a white horse, whose rider(IB) is called Faithful and True.(IC) With justice he judges and wages war.(ID) 12 His eyes are like blazing fire,(IE) and on his head are many crowns.(IF) He has a name written on him(IG) that no one knows but he himself.(IH) 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood,(II) and his name is the Word of God.(IJ) 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen,(IK) white(IL) and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword(IM) with which to strike down(IN) the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”[g](IO) He treads the winepress(IP) of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:(IQ)

king of kings and lord of lords.(IR)

17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds(IS) flying in midair,(IT) “Come,(IU) gather together for the great supper of God,(IV) 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people,(IW) free and slave,(IX) great and small.”(IY)

19 Then I saw the beast(IZ) and the kings of the earth(JA) and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse(JB) and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet(JC) who had performed the signs(JD) on its behalf.(JE) With these signs he had deluded(JF) those who had received the mark of the beast(JG) and worshiped its image.(JH) The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake(JI) of burning sulfur.(JJ) 21 The rest were killed with the sword(JK) coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse,(JL) and all the birds(JM) gorged themselves on their flesh.

The Thousand Years

20 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven,(JN) having the key(JO) to the Abyss(JP) and holding in his hand a great chain. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan,(JQ) and bound him for a thousand years.(JR) He threw him into the Abyss,(JS) and locked and sealed(JT) it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations(JU) anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

I saw thrones(JV) on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge.(JW) And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded(JX) because of their testimony about Jesus(JY) and because of the word of God.(JZ) They[h] had not worshiped the beast(KA) or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands.(KB) They came to life and reigned(KC) with Christ a thousand years. (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.(KD) Blessed(KE) and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death(KF) has no power over them, but they will be priests(KG) of God and of Christ and will reign with him(KH) for a thousand years.

The Judgment of Satan

When the thousand years are over,(KI) Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations(KJ) in the four corners of the earth(KK)—Gog and Magog(KL)—and to gather them for battle.(KM) In number they are like the sand on the seashore.(KN) They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded(KO) the camp of God’s people, the city he loves.(KP) But fire came down from heaven(KQ) and devoured them. 10 And the devil, who deceived them,(KR) was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur,(KS) where the beast(KT) and the false prophet(KU) had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.(KV)

The Judgment of the Dead

11 Then I saw a great white throne(KW) and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence,(KX) and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small,(KY) standing before the throne, and books were opened.(KZ) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.(LA) The dead were judged(LB) according to what they had done(LC) as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades(LD) gave up the dead(LE) that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.(LF) 14 Then death(LG) and Hades(LH) were thrown into the lake of fire.(LI) The lake of fire is the second death.(LJ) 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life(LK) was thrown into the lake of fire.

A New Heaven and a New Earth

21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[i](LL) for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away,(LM) and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City,(LN) the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,(LO) prepared as a bride(LP) beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them.(LQ) They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.(LR) ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes.(LS) There will be no more death’[j](LT) or mourning or crying or pain,(LU) for the old order of things has passed away.”(LV)

He who was seated on the throne(LW) said, “I am making everything new!”(LX) Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”(LY)

He said to me: “It is done.(LZ) I am the Alpha and the Omega,(MA) the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost(MB) from the spring of the water of life.(MC) Those who are victorious(MD) will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.(ME) But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars(MF)—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur.(MG) This is the second death.”(MH)

The New Jerusalem, the Bride of the Lamb

One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues(MI) came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride,(MJ) the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And he carried me away(MK) in the Spirit(ML) to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.(MM) 11 It shone with the glory of God,(MN) and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper,(MO) clear as crystal.(MP) 12 It had a great, high wall with twelve gates,(MQ) and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.(MR) 13 There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. 14 The wall of the city had twelve foundations,(MS) and on them were the names of the twelve apostles(MT) of the Lamb.

15 The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod(MU) of gold to measure the city, its gates(MV) and its walls. 16 The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia[k] in length, and as wide and high as it is long. 17 The angel measured the wall using human(MW) measurement, and it was 144 cubits[l] thick.[m] 18 The wall was made of jasper,(MX) and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass.(MY) 19 The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone.(MZ) The first foundation was jasper,(NA) the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby,(NB) the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.[n] 21 The twelve gates(NC) were twelve pearls,(ND) each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.(NE)

22 I did not see a temple(NF) in the city, because the Lord God Almighty(NG) and the Lamb(NH) are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God(NI) gives it light,(NJ) and the Lamb(NK) is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.(NL) 25 On no day will its gates(NM) ever be shut,(NN) for there will be no night there.(NO) 26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.(NP) 27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful,(NQ) but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.(NR)

Eden Restored

22 Then the angel showed me the river(NS) of the water of life,(NT) as clear as crystal,(NU) flowing(NV) from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life,(NW) bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.(NX) No longer will there be any curse.(NY) The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.(NZ) They will see his face,(OA) and his name will be on their foreheads.(OB) There will be no more night.(OC) They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light.(OD) And they will reign for ever and ever.(OE)

John and the Angel

The angel said to me,(OF) “These words are trustworthy and true.(OG) The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets,(OH) sent his angel(OI) to show his servants the things that must soon take place.”

“Look, I am coming soon!(OJ) Blessed(OK) is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.”(OL)

I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things.(OM) And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet(ON) of the angel who had been showing them to me. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll.(OO) Worship God!”(OP)

10 Then he told me, “Do not seal up(OQ) the words of the prophecy of this scroll,(OR) because the time is near.(OS) 11 Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.”(OT)

Epilogue: Invitation and Warning

12 “Look, I am coming soon!(OU) My reward is with me,(OV) and I will give to each person according to what they have done.(OW) 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega,(OX) the First and the Last,(OY) the Beginning and the End.(OZ)

14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes,(PA) that they may have the right to the tree of life(PB) and may go through the gates(PC) into the city.(PD) 15 Outside(PE) are the dogs,(PF) those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

16 “I, Jesus,(PG) have sent my angel(PH) to give you[o] this testimony for the churches.(PI) I am the Root(PJ) and the Offspring of David,(PK) and the bright Morning Star.”(PL)

17 The Spirit(PM) and the bride(PN) say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.(PO)

18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll:(PP) If anyone adds anything to them,(PQ) God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll.(PR) 19 And if anyone takes words away(PS) from this scroll of prophecy,(PT) God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life(PU) and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.

20 He who testifies to these things(PV) says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”(PW)

Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.(PX)

21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people.(PY) Amen.

15 And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.

And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.

And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.

And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened:

And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles.

And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever.

And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

16 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.

And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.

And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.

For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,

11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

17 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:

With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth.

And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.

The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.

10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.

11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.

17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

18 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.

Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.

And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,

10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:

12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,

13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.

14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.

15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,

16 And saying, Alas, alas that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!

19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.

21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;

23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

19 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:

For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.

And again they said, Alleluia And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.

And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.

And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.

And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.

17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;

18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

20 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

21 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.

10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;

12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:

13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.

14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.

16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.

17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.

18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.

19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;

20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.

21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.

25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.

26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.

27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

22 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.

Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.

Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.

10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.

11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
