For all the nations have fallen because of the (A)wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, and (B)the kings of the earth have committed acts of sexual immorality with her, and the (C)merchants of the earth have become rich from the [a]excessive wealth of her [b](D)luxury.”

I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “(E)Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive any of her plagues; for her sins have [c](F)piled up as high as heaven, and God has (G)remembered her offenses. (H)Pay her back even as she has paid, and [d]give back to her double according to her deeds; in the (I)cup which she has mixed, mix twice as much for her. (J)To the extent that she glorified herself and (K)lived luxuriously, to the same extent give her torment and mourning; for she says in her heart, ‘(L)I sit as a queen and I am not a widow, and will never see mourning.’ For this reason (M)in one day her plagues will come, [e]plague and mourning and famine, and she will be (N)burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her (O)is strong.

Warning to Escape Babylon’s Judgment

Then I heard another voice from heaven say:

“‘Come out of her, my people,’[a](E)
so that you will not share in her sins,
so that you will not receive any of her plagues;(F)
for her sins are piled up to heaven,(G)
and God has remembered(H) her crimes.
Give back to her as she has given;
pay her back(I) double(J) for what she has done.
Pour her a double portion from her own cup.(K)
Give her as much torment and grief
as the glory and luxury she gave herself.(L)
In her heart she boasts,
    ‘I sit enthroned as queen.
I am not a widow;[b]
    I will never mourn.’(M)
Therefore in one day(N) her plagues will overtake her:
    death, mourning and famine.
She will be consumed by fire,(O)
for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.
