But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.(A)

but into (A)the second, only (B)the high priest enters (C)once a year, (D)not without taking blood which he (E)offers for himself and for the [a](F)sins of the people committed in ignorance. (G)The Holy Spirit is signifying this, (H)that the way into the holy place has not yet been disclosed while the [b]outer tabernacle is still standing, which is a symbol for the present time. Accordingly (I)both gifts and sacrifices are offered which (J)cannot make the worshiper perfect in conscience, 10 since they relate only to (K)food, (L)drink, and various (M)washings, (N)regulations for the [c]body imposed until (O)a time of reformation.

11 But when Christ appeared as a (P)high priest of the (Q)good things [d]having come, He entered through (R)the greater and more perfect [e]tabernacle, (S)not made by hands, that is, (T)not of this creation; 12 and not through (U)the blood of goats and calves, but (V)through His own blood, He (W)entered the holy place (X)once for all time, [f]having obtained (Y)eternal redemption. 13 For if (Z)the blood of goats and bulls, and (AA)the [g]ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify for the [h]cleansing of the flesh, 14 how much more will (AB)the blood of Christ, who through [i](AC)the eternal Spirit (AD)offered Himself without blemish to God, (AE)cleanse your conscience from (AF)dead works to serve (AG)the living God?

But only the high priest entered(A) the inner room,(B) and that only once a year,(C) and never without blood,(D) which he offered for himself(E) and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.(F) The Holy Spirit was showing(G) by this that the way(H) into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still functioning. This is an illustration(I) for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered(J) were not able to clear the conscience(K) of the worshiper. 10 They are only a matter of food(L) and drink(M) and various ceremonial washings(N)—external regulations(O) applying until the time of the new order.

The Blood of Christ

11 But when Christ came as high priest(P) of the good things that are now already here,[a](Q) he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle(R) that is not made with human hands,(S) that is to say, is not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves;(T) but he entered the Most Holy Place(U) once for all(V) by his own blood,(W) thus obtaining[b] eternal redemption. 13 The blood of goats and bulls(X) and the ashes of a heifer(Y) sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit(Z) offered himself(AA) unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences(AB) from acts that lead to death,[c](AC) so that we may serve the living God!(AD)

14 For by one offering He has (A)perfected (B)for all time those who are [a]sanctified. 15 And (C)the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying,

16 (D)This is the covenant which I will make with them
After those days, declares the Lord:
I will put My laws upon their hearts,
And write them on their mind,”

He then says,

17 (E)And their sins and their lawless deeds
I will no longer remember.”

18 Now where there is forgiveness of these things, an offering for sin is no longer required.

14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect(A) forever those who are being made holy.(B)

15 The Holy Spirit also testifies(C) to us about this. First he says:

16 “This is the covenant I will make with them
after that time, says the Lord.
I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds.”[a](D)

17 Then he adds:

“Their sins and lawless acts
    I will remember no more.”[b](E)

18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.
