And on that day I will (A)seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

10 “And I will (B)pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem [a]the Spirit of grace and of pleading, so that they will look at Me whom they (C)pierced; and they will mourn for Him, like one (D)mourning for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. 11 On that day the (E)mourning in Jerusalem will be great, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the [b]plain of [c]Megiddo. 12 The land will mourn, every family by itself; the family of the house of David by itself and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself and their wives by themselves; 13 the family of the house of Levi by itself and their wives by themselves; the family of the Shimeites by itself and their wives by themselves; 14 all the families that are left, every family by itself, and their wives by themselves.

False Prophets Ashamed

13 “On that day a (F)fountain will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for (G)sin and for (H)defilement.

“And it will come about on that day,” declares the Lord of armies, “that I will (I)eliminate the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and I will also remove the (J)prophets and the (K)unclean spirit from the land. And if anyone still (L)prophesies, then his father and mother who gave birth to him will say to him, ‘You shall (M)not live, because you have spoken (N)falsely in the name of the Lord’; and his (O)father and mother who gave birth to him shall pierce him through when he prophesies. Also it will come about on that day that the prophets will each be (P)ashamed of his vision when he prophesies, and they will not put on a (Q)hairy robe in order to deceive; but he will say, ‘I am (R)not a prophet; I am a cultivator of the ground, because a man [d]sold me as a slave in my youth.’ And someone will say to him, ‘What are these wounds (S)between your [e]arms?’ Then he will say, ‘Those with which I was wounded at the house of [f]my friends.’

“Awake, (T)sword, against My (U)Shepherd,
And against the Man, My (V)Associate,”
Declares the Lord of armies.
(W)Strike the Shepherd and the sheep will be scattered;
And I will (X)turn My hand [g]against the little ones.
And it will come about in all the land,”
Declares the Lord,
“That (Y)two parts in it will be cut off and perish;
But the third will be left in it.
And I will bring the third part through the (Z)fire,
Refine them as silver is refined,
And test them as gold is tested.
They will (AA)call on My name,
And I will (AB)answer them;
I will say, ‘They are (AC)My people,’
And they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”

God Will Battle Jerusalem’s Enemies

14 Behold, a (AD)day is coming for the Lord when (AE)the spoils taken from you will be divided among you. For I will (AF)gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be taken, the (AG)houses plundered, the women raped, and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people will not be eliminated from the city. Then the Lord will go forth and (AH)fight against those nations, as [h]when He fights on a day of battle. On that day His feet will (AI)stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be (AJ)split [i]in its middle from east to west forming a very large valley. Half of the mountain will move toward the north, and the other half toward the south. And you will flee by the valley of My mountains, for the valley of the mountains will reach to Azel; yes, you will flee just as you fled from the (AK)earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. (AL)Then the Lord, my God, will come, and all the holy ones with [j]Him!

On that day there will be (AM)no light; the [k]luminaries will die out. For it will be (AN)a unique day which is (AO)known to the Lord, neither day nor night, but it will come about that at the (AP)time of evening there will be light.

And on that day (AQ)living waters will flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea; it will be in summer as well as in winter.

God Will Be King over All

And the Lord will be (AR)King over all the earth; on that day the Lord will be the only (AS)one, and His name the only one.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

11 In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.

12 And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart;

13 The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart;

14 All the families that remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.

13 In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.

And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.

And it shall come to pass, that when any shall yet prophesy, then his father and his mother that begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in the name of the Lord: and his father and his mother that begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be ashamed every one of his vision, when he hath prophesied; neither shall they wear a rough garment to deceive:

But he shall say, I am no prophet, I am an husbandman; for man taught me to keep cattle from my youth.

And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.

Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the Lord of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.

And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.

14 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.

For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.

And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:

But it shall be one day which shall be known to the Lord, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.

And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.

And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.

The Ancient of Days Reigns

“I kept looking
Until (A)thrones were set up,
And the Ancient of Days took His seat;
His (B)garment was white as snow,
And the (C)hair of His head like pure wool.
His (D)throne was [a]ablaze with flames,
Its (E)wheels were a burning fire.
10 A river of (F)fire was flowing
And coming out from before Him;
(G)Thousands upon thousands were serving Him,
And myriads upon myriads were standing before Him;
The (H)court [b]convened,
And (I)the books were opened.

11 Then I kept looking because of the sound of the [c]boastful words which the horn was speaking; I kept looking until the beast was killed, and its body was destroyed and given to the (J)burning [d]fire. 12 As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, but an extension of life was granted to them for an appointed period of time.

The Son of Man Presented

13 “I kept looking in the night visions,
And behold, with the clouds of heaven
One like a son of man was coming,
And He came up to the Ancient of Days
And was presented before Him.
14 And to Him was given (K)dominion,
Honor, and [e](L)a kingdom,
(M)So that all the peoples, nations, and populations of all [f]languages
Might serve Him.
(N)His dominion is an everlasting dominion
Which will not pass away;
(O)And His kingdom is one
Which will not be destroyed.

  1. Daniel 7:13 The Aramaic phrase bar enash means human being. The phrase son of man is retained here because of its use in the New Testament as a title of Jesus, probably based largely on this verse.

I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.

12 As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.

13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
