³¹ So my people come to you in crowds,^[a] sit in front of you, and hear your words, but they don’t obey them. Their mouths go on passionately, but their hearts pursue dishonest profit.

²¹ For from within, out of people’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immoralities,^(A) thefts, murders,^(B)

²² adulteries,^(A) greed,^(B) evil actions, deceit,^(C) self-indulgence,^(D) envy,^[a] slander,^(E) pride,^(F) and foolishness.^(G)

¹⁵ He then told them, “Watch out and be on guard^(A) against all greed,^(B) because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions.”^(C)

⁵ Keep your life free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for he himself has said, I will never leave you or abandon you.^[a](A)
