But (A)what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss (B)for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having (C)my own righteousness, which is from the law, but (D)that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; 10 that I may know Him and the (E)power of His resurrection, and (F)the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 if, by any means, I may (G)attain[a] to the resurrection from the dead.

Pressing Toward the Goal

12 Not that I have already (H)attained,[b] or am already (I)perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have [c]apprehended; but one thing I do, (J)forgetting those things which are behind and (K)reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 (L)I press toward the goal for the prize of (M)the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

15 Therefore let us, as many as are (N)mature, (O)have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, (P)God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already [d]attained, (Q)let us walk (R)by the same [e]rule, let us be of the same mind.

Our Citizenship in Heaven

17 Brethren, (S)join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as (T)you have us for a pattern. 18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are (U)the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 (V)whose end is destruction, (W)whose god is their belly, and (X)whose glory is in their shame—(Y)who set their mind on earthly things. 20 For (Z)our citizenship is in heaven, (AA)from which we also (AB)eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 (AC)who will transform our lowly body that it may be (AD)conformed to His glorious body, (AE)according to the working by which He is able even to (AF)subdue all things to Himself.

Be Anxious for Nothing; Think These Thoughts

Therefore, my beloved and (AG)longed-for brethren, (AH)my joy and crown, so (AI)stand fast in the Lord, beloved.

Be United, Joyful, and in Prayer

I implore Euodia and I implore Syntyche (AJ)to be of the same mind in the Lord. [f]And I urge you also, true companion, help these women who (AK)labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in (AL)the Book of Life.

(AM)Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

Let your [g]gentleness be known to all men. (AN)The Lord is at hand.

(AO)Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with (AP)thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and (AQ)the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Meditate on These Things

Finally, brethren, whatever things are (AR)true, whatever things are (AS)noble, whatever things are (AT)just, (AU)whatever things are pure, whatever things are (AV)lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and (AW)the God of peace will be with you.

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss(A) for the sake of Christ. 12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal,(K) but I press on to take hold(L) of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.(M) 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind(N) and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on(O) toward the goal to win the prize(P) for which God has called(Q) me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Following Paul’s Example

15 All of us, then, who are mature(R) should take such a view of things.(S) And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.(T) 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

17 Join together in following my example,(U) brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.(V) 18 For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears,(W) many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.(X) 19 Their destiny(Y) is destruction, their god is their stomach,(Z) and their glory is in their shame.(AA) Their mind is set on earthly things.(AB) 20 But our citizenship(AC) is in heaven.(AD) And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,(AE) 21 who, by the power(AF) that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies(AG) so that they will be like his glorious body.(AH)

Closing Appeal for Steadfastness and Unity

Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for,(AI) my joy and crown, stand firm(AJ) in the Lord in this way, dear friends!

I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind(AK) in the Lord. Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers,(AL) whose names are in the book of life.(AM)

Final Exhortations

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!(AN) Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.(AO) Do not be anxious about anything,(AP) but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.(AQ) And the peace of God,(AR) which transcends all understanding,(AS) will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice.(AT) And the God of peace(AU) will be with you.
